Wardrobe Surgeon Is All About Individual Style.
Wardrobe Surgeon Is All About Individual Style.
Every garment and accessory is handcrafted from reclaimed, vintage, scrap and alternative textilesto create unique, one off pieces in an environmentally responsible way.
Designer Kirsty Spencer, while studying fashion design at Bradford College, developed an environmental conscience that she had to bring into her design work, this turned into a passion for old fabrics and clothing, and she has made it her mission to rescue and revamp tired and unwanted things and give them a new lease of life.
The name Wardrobe Surgeon comes from the idea that we all have damaged or unwanted clothing that could do with a bit of cosmetic surgery. Those favorite, much loved items that we no longer wear but cannot bear to part with and clothes out of fashion but too good to throw out are given a new identity here at Wardrobe Surgeon!
Choosing to use vintage and reclaimed fabrics means we can get unusual, kitsch, luxurious and high quality fabrics not available anywhere else at much lower prices than most new fabrics, this enables us to offer our garments and accessories at really competitive prices. Its also an environmentally friendly and sustainable way to create clothes, and because we can only buy small pieces of fabric, each garment can be truly unique.
All the Fabrics used in Wardrobe Surgeon designs are carefully and individually sourced from charity shops, second hand markets, vintage clothing shops and markets, antique fairs, internet auctions and individual donations. Everything is thoroughly laundered before it starts its new life!
We dont like waste so any leftover fabric is used to create matching accessories such as small bags and our fabulous pincushion brooches.
Each season we hope to release a new collection, with each collection giving the essential shapes and styles, to create lots of unique pieces. The current collection is titled Josephine’s Jumble and is inspired by the book Little Women by Louisa M Alcott, using the shapes of 1850s and 60s.
We are currently working on a new collection inspired by traditional Japanese dress, which will include menswear.
